Editor's review

Gone are the days when students went to attend lecture with pen and paper in hand. The good old pen has been replaced by laptops as students find it to more useful and efficient than the former. Using laptops to record lectures has become very popular, however many a times pupils complain that they are not able to record the voice of the teacher as the voice recording system in their laptops is not powerful enough to capture it and thus it hampers in the process of learning. Synx 1.0 is an answer to their problem as it is specially created for this purpose. With this software you can not only record class lectures but also your conversation with your friends and families and the interviews.

The interface of Synx 1.0 is very neatly designed and all the important options are placed throughout the panel and you can also choose your language. All instructions are clearly given which makes it very user-friendly software. This utility is amazing because it records as you type and later when you open the document you can hear what you have typed without making any special to record the voice. It is also Internet friendly and you can download any document from the net and you can read the document using it. It is a great program as it saves a lot of money as you do not have to buy expensive voice recorders to record the voice and also saves your time. So, this is a very effective tool that will really help you even after you cease to be a student.

Synx is thus very powerful software that makes voice recording seem so easy and does not suffer from any technical glitches and is pretty easy to use too, so it gets a score of three and a half points.

Publisher's description

Many students today take laptops to classes, replacing the old pens & papers.
With modern laptops, beside creating a Word file summary for the lecture, one can also record the lecture using the laptop's built-in microphone.
Even though recording the lecture is fairly easy, not many students do this, for the obvious reason that working with voice files is not as comfortable as working with written summaries.
Wanting to make voice recordings more accessible and easy-to-work-with, we've created Synx - an application used to record as you type, synchronizing the voice and the keyboard strokes.
Later, when reading your summary, simply click a location in the document to hear what the lecturer was saying at that moment.
Synx also provides an accessible way to search the web, translate or read a Wikipedia article from Word itself, simplifying activities frequently needed when working with a document.
Synx is a Word 2007 add-in that blends into Word as a new ribbon.
To record the lecture, use the record, pause, stop, and enable/disable sound buttons.
To search the web, select the text containig the search-term and click the Search button (You can choose which search provider to use).
To translate, choose the from and to languages and the text you want to translate, then click the Go! button. The translation uses Google-Translate.
To read a Wikipedia article, select the text containing the definition and click the Wiki button.
